En este post vamos a ver un poco el estilo de Taylor Hawkins en el disco One by One de Foo Fighters (una de mis bandas favoritas). Él mismo ha dicho que su manera de tocar ha sido influenciada por Roger Taylor de Queen y Stewart Copeland de The Police. En el 2005 fue votado como el Mejor Baterísta de Rock por la revista británica de baterías, Rhythm.
Encontramos en este disco un excelente manejo de dinámicas, pulsos acelerados, silencios, grooves rockeros, musicalidad, breaks a contra tiempo y arreglos acordes a las canciones. Taylor es un baterista de marcar constantemente backbeats* por lo tanto da esa sensación de ser muy sólido. Su manejo de dinámicas con platillos hacen explotar las canciones (no olvidemos que usa varios rides como crashs) y su apoyo a la voz con coros dan como resultado un baterista muy rockero y con destacada actitud.
El sonido en general del álbum es bastante grunge y sucio. En mi opinión, no es el mejor disco en cuestión de sonido, de hecho, quizás sea de los peores. Ellos mismos han dicho que «no sonaba bien». Sin embargo, tuvo una gran trascendencia. ¿Será por lo musical? A mi musicalmente me gusto mucho. El sonido de la batería es equilibrado, profundo y definido salvo en los toms que suenan algo secos y opacos; y los platillos un poco cargado en agudos.

La grabación del disco fue hecha por cinta analogica y procesado luego por Pro-Tools.
Si nunca escuchaste a Taylor Hawkins estas perdiendo a un músico/baterista increíble.

In this post we will look the style of Taylor Hawkins on the album One by One of Foo Fighters (one of my favorite bands). He himself has said that his playing has been influenced by Roger Taylor of Queen and Stewart Copeland of The Police. In 2005 he was voted the best Rock drummer in the British magazine, Rhythm.
We find in this album an excellent handling dynamics, fast beats , rests, rock grooves, musicality, and breaks against time and musical arrangements agree to songs. Taylor is a drummer that constantly makes backbeats * thus gives the feeling of being very solid. Its handling dynamics with cymbals makes blow up the songs (do not forget that he uses rides as crashes) and its support for lead voice with choirs result in a very rock drummer and with outstanding attitude.
The overall sound of the album is quite grunge and dirty. Particulary I think is not the best album in sound aspect, in fact, perhaps the worst. They themselves have said that «it didn’t sound right.» However, it had great significance. Is it musicalily? This album likes me a lot in this sense The drum sound is balanced, deep and defined except for the toms that sound somewhat dry and dull, and cymbals a bit loaded in high frequencies.

*A back beat, or backbeat, is a syncopated accentuation on the «off» beat. In a simple 4/4 rhythm these are beats 2 and 4. In music that progresses regularly in 4/4 time, counted as «1 2 3 4, 1 2 3 4…», the first beat of the bar (down-beat) is usually the strongest accent in the melody and the likeliest place for a chord change, the third is the next strongest: these are «on» beats. The second and fourth are weaker – the «off-beats». Subdivisions (like eighth notes) that fall between the pulse beats are even weaker and these, if used frequently in a rhythm, can also make it «off-beat».
